PSJA ISD Educator Named 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Rising Star Winner

HOUSTON, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) teacher Carolina De Anda-Treviño has been named the 2026 Rising Star (Elementary) by the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, one of Texas’ most prestigious honors for public school educators. Winners were announced Sunday, May 4, 2026, at the Marriott Marquis Houston. 

The Rising Star Award recognizes outstanding teachers with fewer than 10 years of experience. De Anda-Treviño received a $5,000 personal award and a $5,000 grant for her campus. 

“I am deeply honored to be named a 2026 Rising Star in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. This recognition is a reflection is not mine alone—it belongs to my students, whose stories and brilliance inspire me every day; to my family, whose love and sacrifices made this journey possible; and to my community that raised me, lifted me, and continues to shape my purpose.” 

PSJA ISD also made district history as a Finalist in the Large School District Category. In addition, Cesar Chavez Elementary teacher Tami Bhadai was named a Finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award (Elementary), further highlighting the district’s strong culture of excellence. 

At Carmen Anaya Elementary in Pharr, De Anda-Treviño teaches fifth-grade Gifted and Talented Dual Language students. Her approach blends rigorous academics with cultural relevance, helping students build confidence in both their intellectual abilities and cultural identity. She emphasizes critical thinking, leadership, and pride in language and heritage. 

“Mrs. Carolina De Anda-Treviño’s recognition reflects the meaningful connections she builds with her students and her commitment to their success,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “She represents the excellence we strive for across our district.” 

Since 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program has awarded nearly $15 million to educators and schools across Texas, recognizing those who make a lasting impact on student achievement and community engagement. 

Serving more than 29,000 students across three cities, PSJA ISD is nationally recognized for its college readiness efforts, with a graduation rate above 97 percent and a comprehensive wall-to-wall Early College program that allows students to earn college credit, and even degrees, while in high school.
